MIRI: SMK Chung Hua Miri won the secondary school title while Sri Mawar won the primary school title of the 13th Miri Inter Schools Archery Championship which ended at Merdeka Mall on Sunday.
SMK Chung Hua defended their title for the sixth consecutive year after having scored an overall of 65 points ahead of Riam Road Secondary School which collected 30 points while SMK St.
Columba won the third place with 17 points.
Sri Mawar archers won the title for the second consecutive year with of 35 points and defeated SJK (C) Chung Hua who only managed to record 25 points.
At the same time, Bryson Ting and Phyllis Poh Ti Ming who both age ten years, titled as the top boys’ and girls’ archers with a score of 343 and 302 respectively.
For the secondary schools category, Li Ching Wee and Cheryl Rudang Goh Pei Loke both from SMK Chung Hua won the top archers awards.
During the closing and prize presentation ceremony, Assistant Minister of Sport, Datuk Lee Kim Shin had said that Miri archers have proven their mettle in several competitions across the state and country.
“Miri has showed that the archers developed high skills and talent in the game of precision and accuracy of archery sport,” he said on the achievements will can be further improved through the upgrading of sport facilities which can produce more world class archers.
“Having better facilities, it will support the existing talent and skill of archers to achieve glorious winning,” the minister said while lauding the organising committee of the inter-school archery competition which can serve as a stepping stone for the future of young champion archers.
A total of 125 students from six primary schools and seven secondary schools as well as from IBS College and Curtin University participated in the archery tournament which was held from Aug 23-25.
